Our three-bedroom cottage is family owned and lovingly maintained by us for our rental guests and, of course, our own family’s use. The cottage is located near the full service community of Barry’s Bay, Ontario, approximately 2 hours from Ottawa and about 4-4½ hours driving time from the greater Toronto area. Our cottage can be easily found just off of the Highway 60 corridor, which transects Ontario’s great Algonquin Park. The east gate to Algonquin Park is an easy 30-40-minute drive.

 

Carson Lake is a large, deep and clean spring fed lake perfect for swimming and other water activities. Motor boats are permitted but the lake does not have a ‘public’ boat launch or ‘public’ use lake frontage, so, generally, it is very quiet and does not have a lot of boat traffic. Carson Lake is popular among fisherman for bass and lake trout. Our cottage is located behind a very small peninsula so our water frontage is usually calm and not overly affected by prevailing winds from the north or south.

 

Like many properties on Carson Lake, we are blessed with a beautiful sandy beach. The amount of beach is dependent on Mother Nature but by mid-season there is usually 6-10 feet of exposed beach along our 100 feet of water frontage. The entry into the water is sandy and weed free. We make great effort to remove any larger rocks or stones, sticks and debris that get exposed each spring with the thaw and receding ice. Our children are small and enjoy playing in the shallow water and, thus, we like to ensure that there is little chance of injury to the feet of little ones and others. Entry to the lake is gradual and there is no significant “drop-off”. The depth of the water at the end of the 24' dock varies by the time of the year but generally the depth is no more than 1 metre at the end of the dock. The swim raft sits in approximately 3-4 metres of water. Access to the beach is via a series of gradual stairs connected to the deck. Busier kids can also access the beach by running down a small embankment.
